AUBURN | The state’s top recruit took his final official visit this weekend.

Justyn Ross, the five-star wide receiver from Central-Phenix City, was in Auburn for a two-night stay.

“It was fun,” Ross said. “I had a good time with the players and the coaches, just being around everybody.”

Ross spent time with some familiar faces.

“I hung around (Auburn signees and fellow 2018 recruits) Asa (Martin), Shedrick (Jackson) and Joey (Gatewood),” Ross said. “They are going to let me make my own decision, but it’s cool that they are here.”

Ross also spent a lot of time with wide receivers coach Kodi Burns, offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey and coach Gus Malzahn. The three coaches are scheduled to make an in-school/in-home visit with Ross on Friday.

Auburn, Alabama and Clemson are the finalists for Ross. He plans to announce his decision Wednesday, Feb. 7, at noon C.T. ESPN will televise the announcement.

Ross has a lot of work left to do before then.

“I want to sit down with my family and figure it all out,” Ross said. “I want to talk to them and see how comfortable they feel with me at each school. That’s the main thing because I feel comfortable at each school. I could see myself living at each of them for the next 3-4 years.”

Ross visited Clemson in December and Alabama last weekend. Nick Saban made an in-home visit on Thursday. Clemson’s Dabo Swinney is scheduled to visit one day this week.

Alabama and Clemson are believed to be Ross’ top two, but he said Auburn remains in contention.

“Oh, yeah. Auburn is in there,” Ross said. “I like how close it is to home and it’s a great city, just how the people are around here.”

Rivals ranks Ross the No. 14 overall player in the 2018 class and the No. 2 wide receiver.
