AUBURN | Cam Taylor doesn’t have an offer from Auburn, but he knows that could change before Signing Day on Feb. 7.

Gus Malzahn told him so.

“(Malzahn) said things are going to happen, but to wait on it right now,” Taylor said. “Be patient. Things are going to happen.”

Taylor met and spoke with Malzahn during an official visit over the weekend. He was one of 14 recruits on the Tigers’ campus.

“I had a great time. The whole visit was amazing,” Taylor said. “I really liked the player panel. They told us what was real about their situation and what they expect when you come here, how Coach Malzahn and the staff are.”

Taylor, who stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 203 pounds, spent time during the visit with Auburn safety Daniel Thomas. The two have a few things in common. Both of defensive backs from Montgomery, and like Taylor, Thomas had to wait on an offer from Auburn. The Tigers offered the two-star defensive back from Lee late in the 2016 class. Thomas went on to become a member of the Freshman All-SEC team.

“(Thomas) really told me to not worry about things because you never know how things are going to work out,” Taylor said. “You never know who is going to sign and commit. It's a process. You have to trust the process and take everything day by day.”

As a senior at Park Crossing, Taylor played quarterback and accounted for more than 2,500 yards and 30 touchdowns. He passed for 1,466 yards and 14 touchdowns, and rushed for 1,030 yards and 16 scores.

Taylor is an athlete, a versatile one who projects to play cornerback at Auburn. That fits his mentality much better than quarterback.

"I want to play defense,” Taylor said. “I honestly couldn't do the things I wanted to do while playing quarterback because you have to be humble and things. So I get to turn up a little bit and do a little bit more things than I get to do playing quarterback. I like to hit and couldn't do that playing quarterback."

Auburn isn’t Taylor’s only option. He’ll visit FAU this weekend and Nebraska Jan. 26-28.

“I’m going to take my time with everything,” Taylor said. “I won't make a decision until February 7."

Until then, it’s a waiting game with Auburn.

"It would be a big thing,” Taylor said if Auburn were to offer. “It would change everything with recruiting. Right now, I'm going to be patient with everything."
