AUBURN | Clint Myers may have turned 65 in December, but retirement is the last thing on his mind.

The Tigers' softball coach has agreed to a three-year contract extension that keeps him tied to Auburn through the 2023 season — pending approval of the Board of Trustees.

The extension would afford Myers a small salary bump while also adding money to the pool of funds allocated to staff and yielding administrative green lights to a pair of upgrade projects at Jane B. Moore Field.

"I’m at a point in my career where it’s not a job; it’s a passion. It’s something I truly love to do — to teach, to be around kids, to give back," Myers told AuburnSports.com on Friday morning. "The people of Auburn, the townspeople, are awesome. In my years, I’ve never experienced a relationship with a town like I’ve had here. People are so nice."

Myers has taken Auburn to new heights during his four seasons in town — qualifying for the NCAA Tournament all four years and advancing to the championship series in 2016. The Tigers also won the SEC Tournament in 2015 and 2016.

So why would Myers need an extension when his current deal already extended three years into the future? He said Friday that completing all proposed upgrades to Jane B. Moore Field will take longer than three years and he wants to coach inside his fully realized dream facility before retirement.

"It's going to be really, really nice," he said.

The first phase of improvements, which includes construction of an indoor training area to be built beyond the right-field line, will be considered for approval by the Board of Trustees in September.
