Landon Dickerson knew in July after an unofficial visit to Auburn that he wanted to return. The Rivals100 offensive lineman had seen the campus and facilities, but wanted to see a game.
Not just any game. Dickerson wanted to see the Iron Bowl, and this weekend he'll get the chance while on an official visit.
"It will be my first Auburn game and that's the game I've wanted to see," Dickerson said. "It's always a really big game. I'm ready to see it."
Dickerson and his parents will drive 5 ½ hours to Auburn from their home in Hudson, N.C. Dickerson and South Caldwell (11-2) have a third-round playoff game Friday night against Dudley.
"We'll head down probably early Saturday morning and get there before the game starts," Dickerson said. "I want to see what the atmosphere is like, what it's like to play at Auburn."
Dickerson, whom Rivals ranks as the No. 3 guard in the 2016 class, has the Tigers in his top group. Auburn ranks in his top six with Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Florida State, Georgia and Alabama.
"I'm a big fan of Auburn," Dickerson said. "It's a great school with a great coaching staff and I really like (offensive line) Coach J.B. Grimes."
Dickerson took an official visit to Florida State on Oct. 9-11, and will visit Georgia on Jan. 15-17 and Alabama on Jan. 22-24.
He doesn't have a fifth and final visit planned.
"I'm holding one official visit back just in case," Dickerson said. "I've been to Virginia Tech and Tennessee seven or eight times so I'm holding one back. I might end up taking the fifth visit later, but it depends."
Dickerson, who is 6-foot-5 and 295 pounds, doesn't expect to make a commitment until after his visits.
"There probably won't be a decision until later on," Dickerson said. "I'm just ready for this weekend and going to Auburn for the Iron Bowl.
"We'll stay every hour we can. It should be a lot of fun."
Rivals ranks Dickerson the No. 59 overall player in the class and No. 3 player from North Carolina.
