Class of 2019 4-star forward high on Auburn

AUBURN | Class of 2019 forward Jaylin Williams had a prosperous spring.

Williams, a four-star recruit from Brantley County, Ga., has added offers from Auburn, Mississippi State, Wake Forest, South Florida, St. Louis, Texas A&M and Iowa State since May. Those are in addition to the offers he already had, among which included UConn, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech.

“It’s been really good,” Williams said.

Williams, who is ranked the No. 88 player in 2019, also was one of a few top recruits invited to the Chuck Person Shooting Camp in Auburn on June 4. He was joined at the camp by a pair of AAU Game Elite teammates, five-star forward Christian Brown (No. 10 overall) and four-star guard Ashton Hagans (No. 9 overall).

“It was my first time at Auburn and it’s a great place,” Williams said. “I feel like they really care about their kids and their education.”

Williams spent time learning under Auburn associate head coach Chuck Person, the Tigers’ all-time leading scorer despite playing in an era without the three-point line. Williams also met with Auburn coach Bruce Pearl during the camp, which doubled as a visit.

“We talked about education and tutoring,” Williams said. “I really liked it.”

Williams plans to return to Auburn before making his college choice. The Tigers made a good impression during his first visit.

“They are high on my list,” Williams said. “I want to play in the SEC.”

That could bode well for Auburn. Williams also is receiving heavy interest from UConn and Florida State, among others. Florida, however, could make a move up Williams’ list should the Gators offer.

“I visited Florida last year when they played Kentucky and liked it,” Williams said. “I would like an offer from Florida.”

Williams, who is listed at 6-foot-7 and 200 pounds, isn’t in a rush to make a commitment.
