AUBURN | Obinna Eze has been in the U.S. for only 15 months but has already visited Auburn at least three times.

The four-star offensive tackle from Davidson Academy in Nashville, Tenn., attended a game last fall, a Junior Day in March and was back Saturday for an unofficial visit.

One of the biggest reasons for Eze’s interest in the Tigers is offensive line coach Herb Hand, who was one of the first coaches to offer the Nigeria native.

“I think I’ve got a deeper understanding and a deeper feeling about Auburn and getting to understand the coaches,” Eze said. “I sat down with Coach Herb and we talked about offense and technique.

“I watched a lot of tape and I think I understand what he’s doing and I feel like I could fit into the program. I see the things he works with and how he trains his players and I feel like I want someone to do that in my life.”

Eze, 6-foot-8 and 283 pounds, is already setting up plans to return to Auburn for another visit.

“I feel good about this place,” Eze said. “I’m going to be down this fall for sure, probably for an official visit.

“If I come in for an official visit I’m going to try to see what life is like outside of football. I’m going to come for another game too, probably the Clemson game.”

Eze has more than a dozen offers including Auburn, Alabama, Michigan, Florida, LSU, Georgia, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Duke. He has a few top schools in mind but is reluctant to name them.

“I do, but I don’t want to put it out yet,” he said. “For me, I’m just trying to make sure I’m not making any rash decisions. I don’t really care about the hype and all that stuff, whenever I’m ready I’ll just commit and that’s it.”

Eze has several key factors that will play an important part in his decision.

“Obviously education is important,” he said. “I’m looking for opportunity and development. I’m looking for a place I have an opportunity to play. I feel like I have the talent to take football a long way.

“I’m looking for a coach who can develop me, a coach that can change things about me and be patient to develop me into what I can become. It’s basically education, opportunity and development.”
