Rivals250 DB commits to AU

One of the top defensive backs in the 2021 class has committed to Auburn.

Ahmari Harvey, a Rivals250 safety out of Tallahassee, Fla., announced his decision Friday afternoon.

“I love Auburn,” Harvey said. “I love the family environment and the coaches.”

Harvey chose Auburn over offers from Texas A&M, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Alabama and Georgia, among others.

First-year Auburn assistant Al Pogue is Harvey’s area recruiter. Pogue, along with defensive backs coach Wesley McGriff, played major roles in Harvey’s decision.

“Coach Pogue is a great guy,” Harvey said. “He really cares about what you do off the field. And ‘Coach Crime’ (McGriff), I’ve gotten to know him really well and we are close. We have a really good relationship.”

Harvey committed to Auburn without ever having visited. He did, however, experience a virtual visit.

“I really liked it,” Harvey said. “I loved the campus and everything. It’s a family environment. They take care of their players off the field. It’s just a nice place.”

Harvey is the 15th commitment in Auburn’s 2021 class and second safety, joining fellow Florida safety Phillip O’Brien.

Auburn’s 2021 class now has seven commitments from Florida, three from Texas, two from Alabama and one each from Virginia, Missouri and Tennessee.

Harvey is scheduled to graduate high school in December.

“I’m planning on enrolling at Auburn in January,” Harvey said.

As a junior, Harvey recorded 94 tackles, six interceptions, four forced fumbles and 10 pass breakups.

Rivals ranks Harvey, who is six-feet tall and 180 pounds, the No. 16 safety in the 2021 class, the No. 34 recruit in Florida and No. 212 in the Rivals250.
