Yeast set for official visit to AU

Russ Yeast, a former Kentucky commitment, will be in Auburn on an official visit this weekend.

There was only one drawback to Russ Yeast’s visit to Auburn in the summer.

Yeast’s mother wasn’t with him.

That won’t be the case this weekend when Yeast, a do-it-all athlete at Center Grove High in Greenwood, Ind., returns to Auburn for an official visit.

“My mom will be there with me this time,” Yeast said. “I have a game Friday night and we are leaving Saturday morning and should be there by midday.”

It should give him the better part of Saturday to experience game day at Auburn. The Tigers are set to kickoff the season against No. 2 Clemson at 8 p.m.

“I’m really excited to see the atmosphere on game day,” Yeast said. “We should get there in plenty of time to get a good feel for it.”

Yeast also will have another opportunity to meet with Auburn defensive backs coach Wesley McGriff. Although a standout running back at Center Grove, Yeast, who stands 5-foot-11 and weighs 185 pounds, projects on defense at Auburn.

“They are recruiting me as a defensive back,” Yeast said. “They really want me to play corner, but they said I have a lot of versatility and they could see me at nickel or safety.”

That’s fine with Yeast. He was impressed with Auburn in the summer and expects the same on Saturday.

“I really like the coaching staff and the family feel there,” Yeast said. “The campus is great and Auburn is more of a small town, which I like. It’s also in the SEC and has great football. All of those things checked off the list for me.”

Auburn will receive Yeast’s first official visit. He also plans to take official visits to Iowa, Ole Miss and Louisville.

“I can’t remember the exact dates of the visits, but I plan to take them all before I make my decision,” Yeast said. “I’d like to have them all done and make my decision in November.”

Yeast, who moved from Ohio to Indiana in the summer, is averaging 155 yards rushing per game for Center Grove.

Rivals ranks Yeast the No. 5 overall player in Indiana and No. 46 athlete in the 2017 class.
