Wilson down to 2 schools, 1 visit after weekend trip to Auburn

AUBURN | Miles Wilson will transfer to Auburn or Miami, and he’ll announce his decision after he’s visited both schools.

Wilson, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound combo guard from Mount St. Mary’s, took the first of two visits this weekend at Auburn.

“It was great,” Wilson said. “Coach Bruce Pearl and his staff are great. We toured the campus, the locker room, where the players stay and eat. It is a real nice campus. Everything was nice.”

Wilson met with Pearl, associate head coach Chuck Person and assistant Steven Pearl. He also spoke with sophomores Austin Wiley and Danjel Purifoy.

“I had breakfast with them, and Austin Wiley came up and talked to me about the program, Coach Pearl and how things go around here,” Wilson said.

Wilson’s mother and father were both with him on the visit.

“Everyone enjoyed themselves,” Wilson said. “I like the staff and that it's a family environment. Coach Pearl and Coach Chuck Person and Steven, Coach Pearl’s son, they are great people. I know they are great coaches and run a great program, but it’s family. You can feel the family vibe.”

It’s what Wilson is looking for in his next school.

“Wherever I feel most comfortable and where I will be taken care of off the court,” Wilson said. “Just a place where I can feel that family vibe and comfort.”

Wilson will visit Miami on June 1.

“Then I’ll make my decision the first two weeks of June,” he said. “It’s between two schools, Auburn and Miami.”

As a freshman, Wilson started 24-of-35 games for The Mount. He averaged 11.8 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. He shot 45% from the floor, 36% from 3-point range and 74.8% from the free-throw line.

Wilson scored scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds against Villanova in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, and scored 17 points and had 11 boards in The Mount's NCAA First Four win over New Orleans.

Wilson, whose hometown is Baltimore, Md., was named to the Northeast Conference All-Rookie Team. He will have to sit out a year before resuming eligibility, and have three years left to play.
