Auburn redshirt freshman offensive lineman Christian Westerman plans to leave Auburn and intends to transfer to Arizona State, sources confirm to AuburnSports.com.
ASUDevils.com has also confirmed the news through sources at Arizona State.
Westerman signed with Auburn in the 2011 signing class out of Chandler, Arizona. He was the nation's No. 2 rated offensive tackle and No. 27 overall prospect nationally. Westerman was the top player in the state of Arizona.
After originally committing to Texas, Westerman ultimately switched his commitment to Auburn on January 21, just days before signing day. Former Auburn offensive line coach Jeff Grimes played a crucial part in Westerman's switch after turning down a job opportunity at Texas to stay at Auburn.
Westerman played only two games in 2012. He suffered an ankle injury during practice early in the season that kept him out of action most of the fall.
Westerman will sit out 2013 and have two years of eligibility remaining per NCAA rules.
