Week ahead not dead

AUBURN, Ala. | The recruiting dead period went into effect on Monday beginning the first week of a 30-day timeout from college coaches having in-person contact with recruits.
The month-long halt, however, won't slow down the news. Not this week. Not at Auburn.
The Tigers are expected to receive a signed financial aid agreement (FFA) on Monday from Madison Academy running back and longtime Auburn commitment Malik Miller. Miller signing a FAA binds Auburn to uphold its scholarship offer, but does not bind Miller to attend Auburn.
The FAA will allow Auburn and Miller to have unlimited contact, and also permits the coaches to comment publicly about Miller. The dead period no longer would apply to Miller.
Miller, who is an early enrollee, would be the first recruit to sign a FAA with Auburn since the rule was implemented in 2014.
Auburn on Wednesday will receive its second FAA. Calhoun (Ga.) four-star tight end Landon Rice, another longtime commitment and early enrollee, plans to sign at 1 p.m. ET.
Wednesday also is the first day junior college mid-year transfers can sign National Letters of Intent (NLI). Auburn is expected to receive at least two.
East Mississippi quarterback John Franklin III and Copiah-Lincoln (Miss.) defensive end Paul James III both plan to sign with Auburn. The two committed to the Tigers in November and will begin classes at Auburn on Jan. 13.
A day after receiving signed NLIs from Franklin and James, Auburn will find out the college choice of one of its top defensive tackle targets.
Cedar Grove (Ga.) four-star Antwuan Jackson will announce his decision Thursday at 2:30 p.m. ET. Auburn and Ohio State have long been considered the frontrunners.
Jackson, who is an early enrollee, was in Auburn on an official visit over the weekend. Ohio State coaches, as well as coaches from Georgia, made in-home visits with Jackson after he returned from Auburn on Sunday.
Auburn could receive its first signed FAAs this week (Miller and Rice). The Tigers could receive signed NLIs from immediate impact junior college players in Franklin and James. And Auburn could add a commitment from Jackson, the No. 10 defensive tackle in 2016.
The week ahead will be anything but dead.
