AUBURN | American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.) four-star dual-threat quarterback Torrance Gibson is committed to Ohio State, but he's not completely sure of his decision to be a Buckeye.
Not after this weekend.
Gibson, ranked the No. 13 dual-threat quarterback, was one of more than 20 recruits in Auburn on official visits. Gibson arrived Friday in Auburn and stayed until Sunday, and said the visit might have shaken things up for him.
"Everything went well," Gibson, 6-foot-4 and 195 pounds, said. "Everything is looking good. (The visit) changed things a lot. We'll see what the future holds."
Gibson's player host was Auburn receiver Marcus Davis, but the quarterback also spent a lot of time speaking with Gus Malzahn and offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Rhett Lashlee. The Auburn coaches reassured Gibson of where they see him playing in their high-powered offense.
"I sat in Coach Malzahn's office and he told me that I'm their guy," Gibson said. "He said he wants me to come in and I would get a fair opportunity to play quarterback, and I believe him."
Gibson also believes the Auburn coach could improve his game significantly.
"What he did with Cam Newton in one year and Nick Marshall in two, … imagine what he could do with me in three," Gibson said.
That's certainly a possibility, especially after this weekend and after looking over the quarterback depth charts at each school. Ohio State sophomore quarterback Cardale Jones announced late last week that he would not enter the NFL Draft. The Buckeyes also have two other quarterbacks returning with experience.
"I'm committed (to Ohio State), but I'm considering Auburn a lot," Gibson said. "I don't have a problem redshirting, but sitting two or three years, that's not what I want to do. I want to come in and get a fair opportunity to play quarterback.
"I have a home visit with Coach Lashlee and Coach Malzahn in two weeks, and also one with Coach Urban Meyer. I'll just have to wait and see what happens."
Gibson is scheduled to take an official visit next weekend to LSU.
