Top TE target will make commitment next week

One of the top tight ends in the 2017 class plans to announce his commitment next week.

Tre’ McKitty, whom Rivals ranks the No. 17 player at his position, intends to announce a commitment to Auburn, Oregon or Florida next week at The Opening in Oregon.

“He hasn’t narrowed it to one, yet” B.J. McKitty, Tre’s father, said. “But he’s close. I think he feels comfortable that he’ll be able to do it next week.”

Tré McKitty, from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., has visited each of his three finalists. His last trip to Auburn was for the Tigers’ Big Cat recruiting event June 4. McKitty likes Auburn’s campus, the family feel and the coaches.

“Everybody up there at Auburn is awesome,” B.J. McKitty said. “Coach (Gus) Malzahn is great. Coach (Scott) Fountain is great and so is Coach (Rhett) Lashlee. Coach (Tim) Horton has been instrumental also.”

So has Auburn's aviation program.

“The main thing with Auburn is that they have the major he’s interested in, which is aviation,” B.J. McKitty said. “That’s very important to him.”

Still, Tre’ McKitty continues to weigh all of his options.

The date for the tight end’s announcement has yet to be decided, but he expects to have a commitment before leaving Oregon.

Tre’ McKitty, who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 230 pounds, is set to arrive at The Opening on July 5. His announcement could come anytime after.
