Mainland (Daytona, Fla.) offensive tackle Marcus Tatum visited Auburn twice during the spring, and now Auburn is returning the favors.
Auburn tight ends/special teams coach Scott Fountain made an evaluation visit to Mainland High on Wednesday, and offensive line coach J.B. Grimes will attend the spring game next week.
"They are recruiting me hard," Tatum said. "Coach Fountain came by today and then I talked to him on the phone about an hour ago."
Auburn is one of many schools that have been by Mainland to watch Tatum, who is 6-foot-6 and 260 pounds. He has offers from Auburn, Miami, Florida, Louisville, Nebraska, N.C. State, West Virginia and Cincinnati, among others.
"There have been a lot of coaches come by, but I haven't done anything with recruiting as far as visits or anything," Tatum said. "I've been practicing. The spring is strictly about our team.
"I'm not doing any recruiting visits or anything until after our spring. This summer I'll get back out and go to some camps and things like that."
A third visit to Auburn is in the works for the summer. Tatum also plans to return in the fall to attend a game.
"I like it at Auburn. I like the atmosphere and coaches.," Tatum said. "I like the offense, the hurry-up style, because we run the same thing. I just feel really comfortable there. I feel like I fit in there. I'll be back in the summer and the fall."
Auburn has been high on Tatum's list since his first visit in the spring, and solidified itself as a serious contender for Tatum.
"Auburn is up top because I really like them," Tatum said. "There is a group of top schools and Auburn is one of them. They are in the top because I really like them, I like the coaching style on offense and I just like it there."
Miami and Florida are the other two schools in Tatum's top group. He has visited all three and hopes to decide on one in the coming months.
"Hopefully, I'll do it before the fall," Tatum said. "I don't want recruiting interfering with my senior season. I want to be able to focus on our team."
