SPANISH FORT | Spanish Fort four-star linebacker Tre Threat became Auburn's sixth commitment of the 2016 class on Thursday.
Threat, 6-foot-1 and 230 pounds, sat down in the library at Spanish Fort with his parents at his side, thanked everyone and revealed his intentions to sign with Auburn.
"A big 'thank you' to both schools (Auburn and Ole Miss), but after praying to God and talking to my family, my parents especially, the school I choose to further my education at is …," Threat said before leaning over and pulling out an Auburn hat from a bag.
Many of the students and family members packed in the library cheered his decision.
"What stood out to me about Auburn are the coaches and the athletes, the students and the fans, just the school all around," Threat said. "When I go up there, I get that home feel and can just talk to the coaches, to the athletes. It's just really comforting and makes me feel at home."
Threat chose the Tigers over offers from Ole Miss, Alabama, Clemson, Louisville, Mississippi State and North Carolina, among others.
"It's a big stress reliever to go ahead and get it over with and just be sure about it," Threat said. "I knew I was 100 percent positive of where I wanted to go so I decided to go ahead and do it."
Threat doesn't plan on seriously entertaining any other offers.
"I'm going to slow down the recruiting process and not take as many visits," he said. "At this point I'm positive I'm going to Auburn."
Threat joins Rivals250 safety Stephen Davis Jr., defensive tackles Quinnen Williams and David Marshall, five-star receiver Nate Craig-Myers and tight end Landon Rice on Auburn's 2016 commitment list.
