AUBURN | Myles “Spider” Sims, one of the top cornerbacks in the 2018 class, participated Friday at Auburn’s Rising Junior Camp.

Not that it was required of him. Sims, from Westlake in Atlanta, already had an offer from Auburn. But he’s a competitor who likes to compete.

“It went really well because I got to showcase my talents and abilities to the coaches even more,” Sims said. “I got to show them how I really play.”

Sims was one of the higher-ranked juniors at the camp. The four-star recruit worked with Auburn’s first-year secondary coach, Wesley McGriff, who Sims has developed a relationship with since McGriff was hired in January.

“Working with him was good,” Sims said. “I got to show him how I can take coaching and work under different people. I really like Coach McGriff.”

Sims and his parents met with McGriff after the camp. They also spoke with coach Gus Malzahn and defensive coordinator Kevin Steele, among others. The Tigers’ coaching staff, as well as their methods of recruiting, are two reasons Sims has early interest in the Tigers.

“I like the coaches a lot,” Sims said. “They don’t just leave their players to the curb when they recruit them. They actively recruit them, get them on campus and actually bond with them.”

Sims’ offer list includes Auburn, Oklahoma, Michigan, South Carolina, Georgia, Clemson and Kentucky, among others. He doesn’t list a favorite, but expects Auburn to be a contender until the end.

“Everybody is equal right now,” Sims said. “But Auburn is in there and will be. I like it at Auburn a lot, especially the coaches and the way they treat me and my family. It’s a big family there.”

Sims, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 170 pounds, doesn’t plan to make an early decision. He does, however, intend to return to Auburn possibly again this summer and for a game in the fall.
