Softball consummates perfect weekend in Florida
Auburn's final non-conference tournament of the season couldn't have unfolded in a more pleasing manner for coach Clint Myers.
The Tigers won all five of their games at the USF Tournament in Clearwater, Fla., finishing the surge with a 9-4 win against LIU-Brooklyn Sunday morning. The trip also included a perfect game from Kaylee Carlson against Ohio State Saturday — only the second in program history — and third baseman Kasey Cooper becoming only the second SEC player ever to surpass 250 career hits and 250 career RBIs.
Carlson's perfect game in Auburn's 8-0 victory over Ohio State required just 66 pitches.
“To pitch a perfect game, that’s just something that doesn’t happen," Myers said. "She got great support from the defense and we needed it."
Cooper, a senior from Dothan, hit her milestone during a 6-2 victory against Illinois Saturday morning. She was able to amass those numbers in just 253 career games — meaning she's averaged approximately one hit and one RBI in every game of her career.
“That just sums up her ability to produce with those kind of numbers," Myers said. "I’m very excited for her and very honored that she’s an Auburn Tiger. It’s a great honor for the university — as well as Kasey."
