AUBURN | Liberty County (Ga.) point guard Davion Mitchell visited Auburn on June 4, but the trip was more for Mitchell’s traveling companions than himself.

Mitchell, the No. 34 overall player in the 2017 class, visited Auburn along with his mother, father and uncle.

"They all came with me and it went really good,” Mitchell said. “It was their first time at Auburn and they thought it was very nice. They saw the campus, met with the coaches and really enjoyed everything.”

Mitchell and his family met extensively throughout the day with coach Bruce Pearl and assistants Chuck Person, Harris Adler and Chad Dollar.

“My family loves the coaches,” Mitchell said. “They loved talking with them. The coaches made my family feel real comfortable and welcomed.”

Mitchell plans to return to Auburn Saturday for another unofficial visit. He’ll be back later in the year for an official visit. Mitchell does not plan to visit any other schools. He no longer receives recruiting attention from any program but Auburn.

“I know where I’m going,” Mitchell said. “And the other schools know where I’m going.”

Mitchell, who stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 190 pounds, and five-star center recruit Austin Wiley make up Auburn’s 2017 commitment list. Rivals ranks both among the top 35 players in the country – Mitchell at No. 34 and Wiley at No. 18.

“I think we are going to have a great class,” Mitchell said. “I’m doing what I can do bring good players with me. I talk to (AAU teammate and top Auburn target) Chuma Okeke. I’m trying to get him to join us.”

As a junior, Mitchell averaged 24.2 points, 7.1 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 2.9 steals per game.
