Norcross (Ga.) four-star forward recruit Rayshaun Hammonds visited Auburn last summer for Big Ballers Weekend – the Tigers’ big recruiting event of the year – but hasn’t returned.

Hammonds didn’t have a reason to return, but that changed on Wednesday.

“Auburn offered,” Hammonds said. “My mom told me they offered and it felt great. I was really glad to get the offer from Auburn.”

Hammonds had spent part of Tuesday meeting with Auburn coach Bruce Pearl and assistant Chuck Person. Pearl and Person both visited Hammonds at school.

“It went really good,” Hammonds said. “I enjoyed talking with them. They showed me video of what I would do if I went there, and how I’d be a 3-4 special-style player.”

Hammonds, who stands 6-foot-8 and weighs 215 pounds, also has offers from in-state Georgia, Alabama and LSU, among others. He doesn’t have any visits scheduled, but does plan to take several trips in the summer.

Hammonds doesn’t expect to end his recruitment in haste.

“I don’t have any top schools or any favorites right now,” Hammonds said. “I don’t plan on making a decision until later. I still have a lot of time and want to make the best decision for me."

Rivals ranks Hammonds, who is left-handed, the No. 69 player in the 2017 class.
