RB commits to Auburn

Auburn’s search for a running back in this class is over. Finally.

After going the entire 2019 recruiting season without a running back commitment, the Tigers added a big one on Early Signing Day from D.J. Williams.

Williams, from Sebring, Fla., announced his commitment to Auburn at a ceremony at his school. He chose Auburn over offers from Georgia, Miami, Tennessee, Texas and Clemson, among others.

“I think it’s a great fit,” Williams said.

Williams, who played quarterback as a senior, burst onto the recruiting season in November after a senior season in which he rushed for 1,320 yards and 21 touchdowns on 135 carries (9.7 avg.).

Auburn was the first Power 5 school to offer Williams, and he visited days later.

“It was a great visit,” Williams said. “It’s family oriented and made me feel like home. The people stood out to me.”

Williams since has developed a strong bond with running backs coach Tim Horton, area recruiter Greg Brown and coach Gus Malzahn. The three coaches made an in-home visit with Williams last Tuesday.

“Coach Horton is an amazing guy,” Williams said. “I really like the coaches.”

Williams is the 17th commitment in the Tigers’ 2019 class. He will sign today and enroll at Auburn in January.
