AUBURN | Auburn had several of the country's top prospects on campus Saturday to attend the Tigers' annual A-Day game, including Spanish Fort (Ala.) four-star linebacker Tre Threat and Mainland (Daytona Beach, Fla.) three-star offensive tackle Marcus Tatum.
Here is what the in-state 'backer and out-of-state lineman had to say following their visits…
AU in top 2 for in-state LB
Spanish Fort, Ala. (Spanish Fort)
On what stood out to him during the game…
"The tempo of the game and the way the defense moved to the ball. They were flying around. They all swarmed to the ball. It was nice to see it in practice (last week), but it was more intense (Saturday) and they took it serious."
On his recruitment…
"I've got at top two: Auburn and Ole Miss. Both are even. I've been to both campuses and I love both campuses. The only difference between them is I know more people at Auburn than I do at Ole Miss.
"But I love both schools equally. The coaching staffs and players are all easy to get along with at both schools."
S. Florida OT 'fits in' at AU
Daytona Beach, Fla. (Mainland)
On the visit…
"It was a really good atmosphere with the stadium being filled. Got a chance to talk to fans. It seems like a big family up here."
Comparing Florida's spring game to Auburn's…
"Auburn had a lot more fans. It was a lot more exciting and the atmosphere was great."
On his recruitment with Auburn…
"They've been recruiting more. They started talking about their need for tackles because they two they have right now might declare for the draft. Tackles are big emphasis on this class."
On the scrimmage and AU OL coach J.B. Grimes…
"I love their o-line, especially their right guard (Braden Smith). He is probably my favorite offensive lineman in the country right now. He is a monster. Their o-line, their technique and stuff, how they are able to bend at 6'5 and 6'6 and to see how they are coached really stood out to me.
"Seeing Coach Grimes on the sidelines and watching how he reacts to things, I liked that. I was in the meetings and I like how he teaches. He goes through every single player. Not just starters, but walk-ons and everything."
Where Auburn stands…
"I could see myself playing here. I feel like I fit in here. Coach Grimes coaches just like my coaches. He goes through everybody and criticizes the same way. He even criticizes the better players even harder so there isn't any favoritism."
