AUBURN | Auburn on Saturday hosted two of its top quarterback targets, one of whom received an offer from the Tigers.
McAdory (McCalla, Ala.) athlete/quarterback Jay Jones was offered by Auburn. West Orange (Winter Garden, Fla.) dual-threat quarterback Woody Barrett made his first trip to Auburn in two years.
Here is what the two quarterbacks, both of whom are ranked three-star recruits by Rivals.com, had to say about their day in Auburn...
Winter Garden, Fla. (West Orange)
On his visit…
"I really enjoyed myself. I just plan on coming back up here for a game. Watching the spring practice and the facilities, I really enjoyed myself. And the quarterbacks, I think I could be a real asset to the team.
"The coaches and how they were on their players. It's kind of basic and kind of the stuff we do at West Orange. I think I could come in here and start right away."
On Auburn offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Rhett Lashlee…
"He told me how I fit the system and I can come in and be a leader and make plays. Basically, can I come in and start.
"They're looking at me and this other dude, Jawon (Pass), I think is his name. I'm going to compete wherever I go. I'm going to beat them out wherever I go."
On his abilities…
"I can run and also pass. My deep balls are pretty good, very accurate. I can do anything, basically."
The vibe he got at Auburn…
"I got a real good vibe. The team bond, I saw how the team connected with each other and how the coaches got along. Everybody had one team goal and it was to win another national championship."
On meeting with Auburn coach Gus Malzahn…
"I've talked to him before so it was like casual. It was like how you meet your high school coach."
On his recruitment…
"(I'm interested in) Ohio State, Florida, Auburn, Alabama and Oklahoma. If I had to pick a top three not in order: Ohio State, Alabama and Auburn. I plan on picking a school in July."
McCalla, Ala. (McAdory)
On receiving an Auburn offer…
"It was great. It is something that I've been expecting for a long time. I've been coming to Auburn summer camps since the seventh grade, and I finally left with something that I wanted."
On the Auburn coahes…
"Coach Lashlee loved me. He could tell that I have great leadership already. He could tell by my demeanor the whole day that I am a great player. I love the atmosphere here. It is great. They have great quarterbacks here, and he was saying the mobile quarterback has succeeded in his offense and I've seen that. I like it a lot."
Watching practice…
"It gets my mindset ready for what I have to get ready for college. I like the periods that they do. It knocks everything out in a quick pace being under a time limit, which you are in a game so it helps you out."
On his recruitment…
"My top three are Alabama, Auburn and Florida (offer from all). Auburn is pretty high right now. I'm looking for what feels like home to me, and the coaching staff that really just grabs me. What my family likes.
"I've always said I wanted to make my decision on Signing Day, but now that things are getting closer whenever my heart goes I'll be ready at that time. Coach Malzahn wants to come see me throw in person - and then I'll make my decision."
