AUBURN | Auburn on Saturday hosted two of its top offensive tackle targets, both of whom had already received an offer from the Tigers.
West Point (Miss.) tackle Scott Lashley left his visit high on Auburn, as did three-star tackle Marcus Tatum from Mainland High in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Here is what the two tackles had to say about their day in Auburn...
Daytona Beach, Fla. (Mainland)
On his visit and attending practice…
"It was nice. I got to see the offense and I got to see the tempo they do. It's really nice. It's not just on T.V., they're really that talented in person. It's really good to see that. The signs and all that is just like my high school. We do the same thing so it's really nice."
On talking with Grimes and Malzahn…
"He is just a genuine, honest person. He's been coaching for like 39 years and he's still the most humble person in the world. It's nice to see that.
"He really likes my size and athleticism ratio and how I can get downfield. They always recruit athletic tackles and don't like the big fat boys. (Greg Robinson), I know he's a monster. He destroys people all the time. The way he could do it, I could see myself trying to do that, too.
"Coach Malzahn, he was just talking about football and the same thing about athletic tackles, how they need tackles for this upcoming class."
Where Auburn stands…
"I like them a lot. I'm not going to lie. It's up there (with Florida and Miami)."
On his recruitment…
"Going to wait it out. (I'm looking for) the academics and being able to fit it with a football schedule. It fits here because I was watching one of the videos and one of the quarterbacks had my major (Kinesiology)."
(NR) OT Scott Lashley
West Point, Miss. (West Point)
On his visit…
"It was great. The atmosphere, everyone was very loving. It just felt like a home atmosphere, a family atmosphere."
On watching practice…
"That's what really stood out. Going to Junior Days, it's good to see the facilities, but it's also good to see them practice and how the coaches coach.
On offensive line coach J.B. Grimes…
"I like the way he coaches. I like what he did, correcting everyone and not just the starters. He didn't show any favoritism and corrected the small things. He's going to push you to be your best."
On meeting with the coaches…
"They stressed left tackles, that they really need left tackles. They said right now I was top on their board."
Where Auburn stands…
"I still haven't named a top five, but I really like Auburn. That's why I would love to come back with my mom. She is going to help me with my decision. I haven't set a date, but I will be back."
