AUBURN | Several prospects, including four from the 2016 class, received offers from Auburn today while visiting for the Tigers' first official Junior Day of the year.
Here is what each recruit had to say about the big news…
On the visit…
"Everything went great. It was a great day. Everything went according to how I wanted it to go."
On finding out about the offer…
"I went to Coach (Will) Muschamp's room. He was telling me the position I would play and stuff like that. We were just talking, and then he said that he'd really like for me to come to Auburn, to be a part of the team and the future that they have."
His reaction…
"I was in disbelief. After Coach Muschamp said that, he asked if I had any questions. I sat there and thought for a second, and said, 'Wait. Did you just offer me?' He said, 'Yeah, man. I did.' It felt great."
If he considered committing…
"I thought about it for about two seconds, but then I thought that I needed to wait, to think about it and do what's best for me. Coach (Dameyune) Craig told me after I got the offer that things are probably going to get crazy for me. I just want to see what other options come along, to make sure I make the right decision. I will be back in the spring for a practice."
On a timetable for a decision…
"I graduate in December so it will have to be before then. I'll probably do it right before the season starts or during the season."
Bogart, Ga. (Prince Avenue Christian)
On his visit…
"It went good. I got to talk to Coach (J.B.) Grimes and Coach (Gus) Malzahn, and Coach (Tim) Horton as well. It was good to see them again. I got to see more of the behind-the-scenes kind of stuff, more of the academic side that I really wanted to look at. It's good to see the other stuff outside of football.
On his new offer from Auburn…
"Coach Malzahn, we got pulled to his office and he told us that I had an offer here. Coach Grimes emphasized it as well and they said they really wanted me here.
"It means a lot to me. I'm not trying to find all these offers because it makes me look good. I'm trying to find the right place for me, where I can fit in and has the whole family environment."
On Auburn…
"Auburn has always felt kind of comfortable to me and every time I come here I get to see a new side. It just feels comfortable here."
His decision and current favorites…
"I'm probably going to wait until mid-season or early in my senior season. Right now, I'm going to a lot of places to find out what's the right fit for me.
"Tennessee, Duke, Auburn, Alabama and N.C. State…those are my top schools, not in any specific order. All these places I've been really feel comfortable, so it's a hard decision to make."
(NR) DT Tyler Clark
Americus, Ga. (Americus Sumter)
On his visit…
"I got an offer today. It's very big to me. It means a lot to me because I like the school a lot. (Auburn) is my favorite college. It means a lot to me and my family.
"They like how to get after the ball, how I come off the ball and how I use my hands. They think I have really good technique."
Where Auburn stands…
"They are in my top three: Georgia, Clemson and Auburn. I really like the atmosphere of the school. I like all the coaches - Coach (Scott) Fountain, Coach Malzahn and Coach (Rodney) Garner.
"I am supposed to be coming for Big Cat Weekend (May 30)."
(NR) DB Jeawon Taylor
Montgomery, Ala. (Park Crossing)
On his visit…
"I really did like it. It was a really good experience. I was expecting it to be OK, but it was really good.
"They said they liked my playing style, they liked me overall. They offered me, actually. They said they really liked me and wanted me to be an Auburn Tiger."
On getting the offer…
"It's great. Since I was little I wanted to be an Auburn Tiger, like my dream."
On if he considered committing…
"Yes sir, I did. Everyone at Auburn is family. I just like that. But I'll probably wait close to Signing Day. I still have another year left."
Note: Taylor was offered as a safety, and plans to return to Auburn next Saturday to attend a spring practice. He will visit Louisville on April 11.
