AUBURN | Hapeville Charter (Atlanta, Ga.) junior cornerback William Poole III can check Auburn off his to-visit list.
Poole, projected to be a top cornerback prospect in 2017, was in Auburn on Tuesday.
"It was my first time visiting Auburn and it went great," Poole said. "I've wanted to visit Auburn for a while, so it was good to finally get a chance and to finally do it."
Poole toured the practice facilities, the stadium and dorms. He got an overall feel for the campus, and then watched the Tigers practice.
"I could see myself fitting in at Auburn," Poole said. "I could see myself at Auburn."
There's only one problem.
"They didn't offer," Poole said.
Poole, who is six feet tall and 175 pounds, spoke to Gus Malzahn, defensive coordinator Will Muschamp and secondary coach Travaris Robinson.
"That was my first time talking to them," Poole said. "I liked them. They said they were going to keep recruiting me."
Poole currently claims offers from Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Miami, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and Kentucky, among others.
"Alabama and Georgia are my top two right now," Poole said. "If Auburn offered, I'd get excited. They would definitely be in the mix."
Poole is scheduled to visit South Carolina on Thursday and Georgia on Saturday. He doesn't plan to make an early decision.
"Right now my plan is to wait it out, wait until the time is right," he said. "I don't want to rush it."
