AUBURN -- Gus Malzahn spoke with reporters during halftime of Auburn's basketball game against Kentucky.
Here is a transcript of what he said:
How are things going in general?
"It's going good. It's been pretty fast, but it's been a good fast. Now that we have our coaches in tact and they've been out on the road a week, it's been going pretty good."
How is recruiting going?
"Anytime a new staff comes in, a complete new staff, you're going to play catch-up. Our coaching staff has done a great job of identifying the guys and really recruiting them hard. I'm pretty pleased with this staff."
What are your initial thoughts on your staff -- now that it's full?
"They've done a great job of coming together. We're one team with one heartbeat and one vision. They've really worked their tail off so far. I really see good things in the future with this group."
Thoughts on your defensive coaches?
"I'd say our defensive group is the most experienced group out there, especially with the SEC. I thought that was important. Offensively, we feel very good. We've just got to get our defense back. That group can really do it."
Thoughts on Dameyune Craig and his role?
"When I was first hired, I felt like it was very important to get a couple guys who played here at Auburn and were successful at Auburn to help us get our edge back. Dameyune Craig was definitely one of those guys I identified early. We're very fortunate to have him."
Talk about the reception you've received on campus?
"I was here three years previous. It was a great experience for me. We have the best fans in America. It's been a great response. I really appreciate them. It's been a lot of fun."
Talk about meeting with students before the game.
"It was a great experience for me personally to be out in front of our fans. You could feel the energy and the passion. We're proud of our basketball team also."
What is Clint Moseley's status?
"He's no longer on the team. He's looking to get his degree."
So he's still in school?
"Yes."
