No. 7 safety visits Auburn, has Tigers 'high' on his list

AUBURN | Jaylen McCollough, one of the top defensive backs in the 2019 class, visited Auburn on Wednesday.

McCollough, from Hillgrove High in Powder Spring, Ga., spent the day on the Tigers’ campus with his parents and younger brother.

“It was a great visit,” McCollough said. “I got to spend some 1-on-1 time with the coaches, tour the campus and look at the academics."

McCollough met with area recruiter Tim Horton, defensive backs coach Greg Brown, defensive coordinator Kevin Steele and head coach Gus Malzahn.

“I really like the coaches,” McCollough said. “Coach Horton is my main recruiter and I’m pretty close to him. He is a really nice guy.”

The visit was the second to Auburn for McCollough. He also visited in the fall for the Tigers’ win over Alabama. McCollough plans to return to Auburn at least two more times.

“I’ll definitely be back more than likely for a spring practice and for a few games in the fall,” McCollough said. “Auburn is a nice place, a great school with a great atmosphere and great people. I don’t have a top group, but Auburn is high on my list.”

McCollough, who is a December graduate, plans to make his decision in early fall.

“More than likely I’ll make my decision before my senior season kicks off,” he said. “My family and I will continue to take visits and take things slowly to make the best decision.”

Rivals ranks McCollough, who is 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, the No. 7 safety in the class, the No. 12 overall player in Georgia and No. 102 in the Rivals250.
