AUBURN, Ala. | Tré McKitty visited Auburn on Friday, along with the majority of his IMG Academy teammates. It was McKitty’s second visit to Auburn this spring and third since last summer.

Visits No. 4 and No. 5 to Auburn already are planned for the No. 11 tight end.

“I really like it at Auburn,” McKitty said. “The coaching staff always shows me a lot of love. I had another good visit (Friday) and I plan to be back for BIG CAT (June 4) and also for an official visit.”

McKitty has yet to set a date for his official visit to Auburn, but is eyeing the weekend of Sept. 2-4 when the Tigers open the season at home against Clemson.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back,” McKitty said. “That game should be a really good game to come back and watch and see the environment and everything on game day.”

That’s the only thing missing for McKitty. He watched in March as Auburn held one of its 15 practices, and McKitty has seen the campus and facilities multiple times. Friday’s visit was more about his relationships with the Auburn coaches, specifically tight ends coach and lead recruiter Scott Fountain.

“I just hung out with the coaches all day,” McKitty said. “I sat down and talked to Coach Fountain for about an hour. He had already showed me film and everything so we just sat in his office and talked and built on our relationship.”

The relationship between Fountain and McKitty has been under development for nearly a year.

“Coach Fountain is a great guy,” McKitty said. “We’ve been building a relationship since they offered me last summer and it just continues to grow. He’s a really good guy and I enjoy talking to him.”

McKitty also spent time during his visit Friday with Gus Malzahn. The Auburn head coach took McKitty for a spin around the block in his new sports car, a BMW i8.

“That was pretty cool,” McKitty said. “Coach Malzahn and all the coaches showed me mad love. I had another really good visit and I’m ready to get back.”

McKitty and IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) left Auburn Friday afternoon and traveled to Florida State. They visited Florida on Thursday.

“I don’t really have a list, but Auburn is up there,” McKitty said. “They will be an official school. Florida, Florida State, Tennessee, Oregon and North Carolina also are recruiting me really hard.”

Rivals ranks McKitty, who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 225 pounds, the No. 62 player in Florida. He plans to take his official visits before making a commitment.

“I want to take my officials as soon as possible and then maybe make a commitment around midseason,” McKitty said.
