Auburn co-offensive coordinator/receivers coach Dameyune Craig has a new target at Tampa (Fla.) Catholic High School.

After years of recruiting five-star receiver Nate Craig-Myers, Craig informed the Crusaders’ junior athlete Devan Barrett on Wednesday that he’s next.

“I called and talked to Coach Craig and he said I had an offer,” Barrett said. “It felt great. Auburn is one of the offers I’ve been waiting for. It’s a big-time school and I’m just blessed to have received an offer.”

Barrett, who stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 195 pounds, is a versatile athlete. He could play one of many positions in college. He certainly excels at several in high school.

Barrett played running back as a junior and averaged 10.1 yards per carry. He finished with 1,891 yards and 21 touchdowns on 187 attempts. He also played receiver, hauling in 15 receptions for 218 yards and two scores.

The Rivals100 recruit also was a standout on defense. He played safety and finished with 31 tackles, including 21 solos, a tackle-for-loss and a sack.

“Coach Craig didn’t say a position,” Barrett said. “He just wanted me to know that I had been offered. It doesn’t matter to me about position. I’m just blessed to have received the offer.”

Barrett previously visited Auburn on at least two separate occasions and plans to return in the offseason. He also has offers from Florida, Florida State, Miami, Alabama, Ohio State, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and West Virginia, among others.

“I’ve been up to Auburn a couple of times and I love it up there,” Barrett said. “It’s a great environment to be in. I will definitely be back up there in the summer. It’s a really big offer for me.”

Barrett doesn’t plan to make an early decision. He would like to visit as many schools as possible before narrowing his list. Until then, he’s remaining open to all schools.

“I want to take my time and make the best decision,” Barrett said.

Rivals.com ranks Barrett the No. 4 athlete in the 2017 class, No. 9 overall from Florida and No. 62 in the Rivals100.
