Mississippi's No. 1 WR visits Auburn, lands offer

AUBURN | Class of 2019 wide receiver Dannis Jackson was offered by Auburn last Saturday during a visit for Junior Day.

The offer didn’t come as a surprise to Jackson, a four-star recruit from Sumrall, Miss.

“I felt like there was a good chance I was going to get it,” Jackson said. “They came to the school and (Gus Malzahn) just doesn’t go everywhere, so obviously they were interested. I was hoping that I got the offer and I did.”

Jackson now has more than a dozen offers, most of which come from Power 5 schools. That includes Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee and Oregon. The offer from Auburn is one Jackson had been waiting on and hoping for.

“It’s a big offer,” Jackson said. “It meant a lot because Auburn is a pretty good school and has a great program. They have a nice fanbase, put a lot of guys in the NFL and that’s the main goal. That’s a big part of it for me.”

New assistant Marcus Woodson is recruiting Jackson to Auburn. Woodson, who has ties to the state of Mississippi, is an asset to Auburn. He and Jackson already have developed a bond.

“He’s from Mississippi and Mississippi people stick together,” Jackson said. “That’s a big part of it. I feel like if he likes it we’ll probably like it. I just want to get to know everybody.”

Jackson made the visit to Auburn with another Mississippi four-star recruit, Horn Lake linebacker Nakobe Dean. Auburn has made both Jackson and Dean priorities in the 2019 class. The two play against each other in high school, but are considering changing that in college.

“Me and Nate, we have known each other for a long time and played against each other for a long time since middle school,” Jackson said. “It would be great to be on the same team as him. If we find a school that fits us both we might just go together.”

Jackson will return to Auburn in the spring or summer.

“I plan on coming back to Auburn,” Jackson said. “I like it and want to learn more about it. It’s definitely a place I could consider.”

Jackson, who is ranked the No. 1 wide receiver in Mississippi and No. 8 player overall, doesn’t expect to make a commitment before taking more visits.

“I don’t want to commit to anything early because when I commit I want to be for sure I’m going there,” Jackson said. “I’m going to wait it out and be for sure that’s the school I’m going to.”
