AUBURN, Ala. | Auburn continues to make a strong push for one of the nation's top defensive linemen.
Derrick Brown, rated a five-star and the nation's No. 3 defensive tackle, attended the Tigers' cookout Saturday.
"I'd say they're definitely at the top, one of my top schools, Auburn is," said Brown, who is from Sugar Hill in Lanier, Ga. "It's a small town, kind of like where I grew up at. This environment is very comfortable to me."
Joining the Tigers in his top group are Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee. Brown, who plans to hold off on a decision until Signing Day, will go on most of his official visits in January.
He plans to be back in Auburn for some games this fall.
"I'll definitely be down here for the Iron Bowl," he said.
Brown said his latest trip to Auburn was a laid-back affair.
"It was pretty good," he said. "It was just relaxing to be able to hang out with my family and come up here and have a good day with the coaching staff."
Brown was joined on the visit by his mom, dad, brother, sister and girlfriend.
"They liked it. They were talking to everybody," Brown said.
They spent a lot of time with defensive line coach Rodney Garner, defensive coordinator Will Muschamp and outside linebackers coach Lance Thompson.
"We got to talk to each other and my parents liked them a lot. That's a big part of it," Brown said.
Auburn's message to Brown was clear and concise.
"They need defensive linemen here. That's the bottom line," he said.
