Milton (Ga.) five-star defensive end Carl Lawson reaffirmed his commitment to Auburn on Sunday following his official visit.
The news will reverberate throughout the recruiting landscape and it's big news for Auburn.
"This will successfully end my recruitment I am an Auburn Tiger. No questions will be answered no calls will be accepted," Lawson announced on Twitter.
"Haven't felt this light on my feet In a while. The weight of the world is off my shoulders. WDE."
Lawson committed to Auburn in the spring, but after the coaching change, began to waver. He visited Clemson and Tennessee in recent weeks. Those two programs posed the biggest threat to the Tigers ability to hold onto the nation's best strongside defensive end.
Lawson told AuburnSports.com exclusively in a text message on Sunday night, "Message to the AU fans. AU is gonna finish this class 10 times better than anyone will imagine. And that's a promise."
Factoring into Lawson's final decision was his father, Carl Lawson Sr. The elder Lawson guided his son through the recruiting process in the last three months, as Lawson declined interviews and spoke rarely.
Lawson Sr. visited Auburn by himself last week to tour the campus and meet the new strength and conditioning coach. The week leading into the Auburn visit, Lawson Sr. and his wife returned to visit the Plains during the day on Thursday. Their attention and willingness to gain comfort in Auburn spoke volumes about Lawson's preferred school.
And amidst rumors of Lawson parting ways with Auburn the last two weeks, Lawson Sr. set the record straight.
"That's the furthest thing from the truth," Lawson Sr. told AuburnSports.com on January 29. "He's never decommitted from Auburn, there's a reason for that."
Lawson finished his junior and senior season with 42 combined sacks.
