Junior ATH commits to AU

Shaun Shivers is taking his talents to Auburn.

The junior athlete from Chaminade Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.) announced his commitment to the Tigers Wednesday night.

“I really like Auburn,” Shivers said. “I really like the campus, the coaching staff and the atmosphere around the program. I like everything about Auburn.”

Shivers made the commitment after narrowing his offers to Auburn, West Virginia, Virginia Tech and TCU. Shivers also listed offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, LSU, Louisville, Mississippi State and South Carolina, among others.

Shivers, who is listed at 5-foot-7 and 170 pounds, believes Auburn and its offense fit his skill set. He believes he can be successful at Auburn. Shivers’ beliefs strengthened last Saturday when he watched the Tigers beat Arkansas, 56-3, and rush for 543 yards in the process.

“I loved what they did to Arkansas,” Shivers said. “Arkansas is a good team and Auburn destroyed them. I know I would have went off that night, too.”

Shivers, although short in height, has elite speed. He’s been clocked in the 100-meter dash in the 10.4-second range.

“Their offense really fits me.” Shivers said. “The coaches have shown me what I can do there and how great a player I could be there,”

Shivers doesn’t doubt the coaches, nor does he doubt his abilities. And he shouldn't.

Shivers is averaging 11.6 yards per carry this season for the Lions. He’s rushed for 663 yards and six touchdowns on 57 attempts. Shivers also has four receptions for 84 yards and a score, and returned a kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown.

In all, Shivers has 747 all-purpose yards and eight touchdowns in seven games.

Rivals.com ranks Shivers a four-star recruit and the No. 195 junior in the country. Shivers is the second junior to commit to Auburn's 2018 recruiting class. Bartram Trail (Jacksonville, Fla.) quarterback Joey Gatewood committed to the Tigers in January.
