Auburn extended an offer to fast-rising Jackson (Ala.) linebacker Gavin Bryant on Tuesday.
"My coach told me that Coach Melvin Smith (Auburn defensive backs coach) wanted to talk to me. I called him and told him about myself, and he said they wanted me to play for them. It feels good to land that offer. I wanted the close schools to offer me, so that's good," Bryant said.
Bryant is fresh off landing an offer from Alabama over the weekend. South Carolina, Kentucky and others have also offered Bryant. He claims eight total offers.
The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Bryant will be in Auburn on March 30 for Junior Day. It will be his first visit to Auburn and his first visit with the new Tigers' coaching staff.
"I don't know too much about the new coaching staff," Bryant said. "I want to see what they have. I want to see the depth chart on linebackers, see if I could get some playing time. And I want to talk more with Coach Smith."
With his most recent offers coming from the in-state rivals and the most recent national champions, Bryant has thought about the prospects of staying in his home state.
"Sometimes I think about doing it, but sometimes I think it doesn't matter where I go, I just want to go play," said Bryant.
Bryant admittedly grew up an Alabama fan. Will that impact his ultimate decision?
"I'm trying to give everybody a fair shot," he said.
Bryant has no timetable for a final decision as offers continue to roll in.
Bryant had 120 tackles as a junior. He will attend the Rivals Camp Series Presented by Under Armour on April 6 in Birmingham.
