Auburn basketball coach Bruce Pearl and assistants Chuck Person and Harris Adler visited Rock School point guard Jamari Wheeler on Thursday.

Wheeler, who is from Gainesville, Fla., recently was released from his National Letter of Intent with Duquesne, which he signed in November.

Wheeler is a top target for Auburn, one the Tigers hope to get a visit from as early as next weekend. With Jared Harper returning and Davion Mitchell arriving, Auburn’s need at point guard in 2017-18 isn’t a big one. But Wheeler is too good to pass on given the opportunity, and Auburn hopes to get it.

Wheeler has added several offers since receiving a release last week from Duquesne, the most recent coming Thursday night from Seton Hall. Wheeler has been in constant talks with Auburn’s coaches, and although a visit isn’t officially set at this time, it’s likely to happen soon, maybe next weekend.
