AUBURN | Bruce Pearl isn’t wasting any time building his next great class at Auburn.

The Tigers’ third-year coach, who has the No. 1 class in 2017, received a commitment Thursday from E.J. Montgomery, the No. 9 overall player in 2018. Pearl and the Tigers then played host to the No. 8 player two days later.

Five-star recruit Khavon Moore, a 6-foot-8, 190-pound guard/forward from Westside High in Macon, Ga., was in Auburn on Saturday with his mother, girlfriend and mentor.

“We had a good time,” Moore said. “It went real good.”

Moore was one of several top hoops recruits in Auburn on Saturday. Montgomery also was on campus, along with Class of 2019 four-star guard Kobe Brown and Class of 2017 four-star recruits Garrison Brooks and Ikey Obiagu.

Moore spent time with the other recruits. He also saw the campus and facilities and met with Pearl and assistants Chuck Person, Chad Dollar and Harris Adler.

“I was mainly with Coach Person and Coach Dollar,” Moore said. “I have a good relationship with them and all of the coaches, including Coach Pearl. They are all good guys and good coaches.”

The group of coaches is a big reason Moore is considering Auburn, but not the only reason.

“I’m definitely looking at Auburn,” Moore said. “They are one of the schools that I’ll be looking at hard. They’re recruiting me hard. Auburn is a good school and I get a good vibe at Auburn. The coaches are real cool and easy to be around and I think they’ll do really good at Auburn.”

It also doesn’t hurt the Tigers that they have a commitment from Montgomery.

“Me and E.J. are cool,” Moore said. “We talk a lot, but we really haven’t talked about college, yet.”

Moore has an offer to join Montgomery at Auburn, and also has offers from UConn, Florida, Memphis, Wake Forest, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, LSU, Maryland, N.C. State, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Texas A&M, among others.

Moore doesn’t list any favorites at this time, and doesn’t plan to name any in the near future.

“I don’t have a list right now,” Moore said. “I’m just taking everything in.”

Moore doesn’t have any other visits set, but does plan to return to Auburn for a basketball game this winter.
