AUBURN | Max Wray had already heard plenty about Herb Hand. Saturday, he was able to see Auburn’s offensive line coach in action.

Wray, a highly-recruited 2018 offensive tackle from Franklin (Tenn.) High, attended the Tigers’ spring practice.

“He’s a great guy, great coach and really knows what he’s talking about,” Wray said. “He coached my line coach at one of the places I train at so I’ve already got a connection to Coach Hand. My coach at high school likes him, my dad likes him, I like him. He’s a good guy.”

It was Wray’s first visit to Auburn.

“It was awesome,” he said. “A lot of great coaches, great atmosphere, a lot of intensity for practice. It was high intensity and high tempo and it looked like they were getting stuff done.

“The way the players really got after it and they seemed to respond to coaching very well and that shows that the coaches are nice and are good coaches and they really help out their players.”

Wray is up to 10 offers including Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, USC and North Carolina. It’s early but Wray has a few schools that stand out.

“There’s a group of schools — Georgia, LSU, Auburn — are pretty nice,” he said.

Wray's next visit will be to Tennessee for a spring practice. A second trip to Auburn is also on the docket.

“I’ll probably come down in the fall for a game or something,” he said.
