AUBURN | Hezekiah Jones had already heard a lot of good things about Auburn.

Last weekend, the four-star wide receiver from Stafford (Texas) High School got to see the SEC school in person for the first time.

“Just the environment,” said Jones of what stood out. “Me being form Texas you really don’t know about Auburn that much, but coming down here to visit was cool and I liked it a lot.”

Jones is already planning a return trip, potentially for an official visit.

“Oh yeah, most definitely,” he said. “It’s beautiful and I love the environment. The team, you can bond with them very easily. They’re not stuck-up or anything and I like them a lot.”

Jones came along with four-star dual-threat quarterback Kellen Mond, who was visiting for a third time. Jones and Mond are both Texas natives and both former Baylor commitments.

“We’ve been very close since freshman, sophomore year,” Jones said. “When we committed to Baylor, we agreed on it together. He’s a great quarterback and I would love to play for him.

“He spoke very highly about Auburn because he’s been here two times before this time. He’s been down here, he knows the ropes around here and he said he likes it a lot. He said it’s beautiful, and it really is.”

Jones, 5-foot-11 and 193 pounds, narrowed his list to a top eight of Auburn, Alabama, Michigan State, Houston, Oregon, California, Texas A&M and Notre Dame last week. He said all eight teams are even at this time but he’s working to cut that list in half.

“I have to finish taking my visits before I narrow it down again to a top four, but really I’m just keeping my options open, visiting every school and getting their insight,” Jones said.

Jones caught 37 passes for 545 yards and seven touchdowns as a junior. He also had 20 tackles, four pass breakups and one interception on defense.
