AUBURN | Brodarious Hamm took a big step in his battle against cancer this week when he enrolled at Auburn.

The standout offensive lineman from Spalding in Griffin, Ga., signed with the Tigers in February but was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in March.

“It means a lot to him,” Spalding coach Nick Davis said. “Going through what he’s been going through and the uncertainty, getting on campus and understanding it’s still a reality to be at Auburn and play there is just an exciting time for him. He just couldn’t wait to be on campus and be around his teammates.”

Hamm could be nearing the end of his cancer treatments.

“I know he had one left and then they were going to re-test,” Davis said. “Hopefully, that was the last treatment he was going to have. I haven’t heard anything from his parents on that yet.”

Davis said Hamm can participate in light workouts but still has to be released by his doctors for a return to practice and eventually the playing field.

“Before he left he was working out with us at the high school a little bit this summer,” Davis said. “He’s probably about 75 percent healthy with his workouts and as he continues to get stronger and build up his strength he can do more and more.”

Hamm joins quarterback Woody Barrett and running back Kameron Martin as signees that enrolled at Auburn this week. Two more, defensive lineman Nick Coe and defensive back Marlon Character, are still working to become qualified and aren’t expected to enroll until the end of July.

Another Auburn signee, defensive lineman Tashawn Manning, will delay his enrollment as he receives treatment for Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia.

The rest of Auburn’s 22 2016 signees are already enrolled. The recent addition of Martin, a former Baylor signee, moved the Tigers up to No. 9 in the Rivals.com team recruiting rankings.
