DB commit taking 3 visits

Marlon Character switched his commitment from South Carolina to Auburn, but now wants to make sure he made the right decision. Character will visit SC this weekend.

Marlon Character wants to double-check his decision.

The Rivals250 safety switched his commitment from South Carolina to Auburn in November, but plans to take another look at the Gamecocks before signing with the Tigers. He'll do it this weekend.

Character, a four-star recruit from Grady in Atlanta, Ga., will travel to South Carolina for an official visit.

"I just want to go up there and take some of my family with me - my little brother and grandmother - and see the coaches," Character said.

Character is familiar with most of South Carolina's new staff, most notably head coach Will Muschamp and defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson. Both Muschamp and Robinson were at Auburn less than a month ago . The two were big reasons Character chose the Tigers.

"I want to see how they are handling things up there," Character said.

Character will travel to Virginia Tech for an official visit on Jan. 22-24. An official visit to Auburn will close his recruitment.

"I'll take my visit to Auburn on Jan. 29," Character said. "That will be my last visit and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm going to have a lot of family with me. It will be more of a family thing."

Character will get to meet Auburn's new secondary coach before the visit. Wesley McGriff, who was hired to replace Robinson, is scheduled to make an in-home visit with Character on Thursday. New linebackers coach and Atlanta area recruiter Travis Williams will be there, too.

"I've talked to Coach McGriff a lot," Character said. "We're building a really good relationship. I've heard a lot about him. He's coached a lot of NFL guys and I've heard nothing but good things about him. I'm really looking forward to meeting him and then taking my visit."

Character remains confident in his Auburn commitment.

"I still feel very good about Auburn," he said.

Rivals.com ranks Character the No. 13 safety in the 2016 class and No. 22 player from Georgia.
