The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Harris gave his pledge to the Jaguars Wednesday.
"It feels good," said Harris, who was recruited by Tommy Perry. "I really like South Alabama. I like what they are doing with their program. I like the coaches. I like the atmosphere."
Harris chose South Alabama over offers from UAB, Memphis, Louisiana Tech, Illinois, Kansas, Southern Miss and Mississippi State.
Harris is scheduled to take an official visit to South Alabama Jan. 28-30.
"I'm solid to South Alabama," Harris said. "It feels good to get my commitment out of the way and start looking towards the future."
Harris is the Jaguars' ninth commitment joining several other in-state standouts including teammate Jake Howton, Spanish Fort athlete Ameriol Finley and Decatur linebacker Desmond Lavelle.
