Clemson RB commit talks AU visit

Mainland (Daytona Beach, Fla.) four-star running back Marlin Lane has been committed to childhood-favorite Clemson since June.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Lane said the only school that could change his college destination is Auburn. He's not considering any others at this time.

He visited the Plains over the weekend.
"The visit went real good," said Lane. "Coming up, I always liked Auburn and Clemson so I decided to visit Auburn on my Christmas Break and see what it's like outside of football when there aren't a lot of people around.
"I liked hanging out with the players, just getting to know them. They are similar to me. They like to have fun, work hard and get after it. That's why they are in the national championship game."
Lane watched Saturday as Auburn practiced for the Jan. 10 BCS National Championship Game against No. 2 Oregon.
"They get everything done in a short amount of time," said Lane. "They keep the tempo going from the beginning to the end. I like that. I went to meetings Saturday and everything went well. I hung out with (Onterio) McCalebb. He's a nice kid. He's a funny kid, and fast."
McCalebb is one of two running backs Auburn will return in 2011. The lack of depth at the position is something Lane didn't have a problem noticing.
"That opens my eyes," Lane said. "It shows me I could get in and play early. Even though they are short on running backs, they work hard. They never get tired. I like that. I want to be surrounded by people like that."
After the Auburn visit, Lane said there are a lot of similarities between the SEC and ACC Tigers.
"Everything is similar, the number of students, players, the stadiums, the atmospheres, the people. That really opened my eyes, too," he said. "I'm going to have to list all of the positives and negatives after I go on my official visit (to Clemson)."
Lane said he would make a final decision in February.
"I'm not playing in any All-American games so I can train, work, study for tests and be ready to make my decision on (Feb. 2 or 3)," he said. "It will be a tough decision, but (Auburn has a chance). The visit helped a lot. The facilities are nice. The new indoor practice facility they are going to get is going to be nice. The Tigerettes are nice. All of the coaches are nice.
"I have one more visit to Clemson and then I'll decide between the two Tigers. By February 2 or 3, I should know where I'm going. It will be one of the Tigers."
Lane is ranked the No. 8 running back in the country, the No. 14 prospect from Florida and the nation's No. 55 overall recruit.
