Class of 2019 tight end likes opportunity at Auburn

AUBURN | The tight end hasn’t been a primary weapon in Auburn’s offense lately, but that’s not by design.

Cartersville (Ga.) tight end Jackson Lowe learned of the Tigers’ troubles and the reasoning behind them Saturday during a visit for Junior Day.

“They told me the past two years they haven’t been able to throw to the tight end because they haven’t had their dude,” Lowe said. “I didn’t know they are were having a tight end crisis. I didn’t think they really used their tight ends, but when we sat down and talked they told me what happened the past two years.”

Auburn’s lack of a tight end is appealing to Lowe. It means he could compete immediately for playing time.

“That is important,” Lowe said. “They’re not taking any in the 2018 class, so I could be one in the 2019 class to come in and play. They said I could be one of their guys to come in and have the chance to get a good amount of playing time. That would be great.”

Lowe already has an offer from Auburn, as well as ones from Alabama, Penn State, Clemson and Michigan, among others. Auburn, after the visit Saturday, is in his top group of schools.

“They are one of my top schools,” Lowe said. “I really enjoyed the visit. I loved it and could see myself playing here.”

Lowe plans to return to Auburn in the spring or summer.
