PHENIX CITY | Central four-star cornerback John Broussard has been a visitor at Auburn enough times now that he no longer wants to be a stranger.
He wants to call it home, and plans to.
Broussard, ranked the No. 1 cornerback in the state and No. 13 in the country, committed to Auburn on Thursday.
"It just feels like home to me," Broussard said. "I love it up there and I love the coaches."
Broussard chose the Tigers after narrowing his list to a final three of Auburn, LSU and Mississippi State. He announced his decision during a ceremony at Central High School.
Broussard, 5-foot-11 and 165 pounds, visited Auburn several times during the spring, including a quick trip to the Plains on Sunday to speak with coach Gus Malzahn and new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp.
"They are big reasons why I really like Auburn," Broussard said. "Coach Malzahn, Coach Muschamp and Coach (Rhett) Lashlee, they are great coaches.
"Coach Muschamp, he was a great hire. He's a great defensive-minded guy. He's had a lot of guys go in the (NFL) draft the last couple of years, and he always has great defenses so you know he's got a great scheme."
Broussard is looking forward to being a part of it in 2016.
"There is a great opportunity for me at Auburn," Broussard said. "They have a great opportunity for me to come in and play and compete for a starting spot."
Broussard narrowed his options to Auburn, LSU and Mississippi State after also considering offers from Florida State, Florida, Clemson, Georgia, Michigan, South Carolina, Tennessee, Nebraska and Penn State, among others.
Rivals.com ranks Broussard the No. 151 overall prospect and the state's No. 6 player in 2016.
Broussard is the Tigers' sixth commitment in the 2016 class and second Rivals250 defensive back. Dutch Fork (Irmo, S.C.) four-star safety Stephen Davis Jr. is ranked the No. 103 overall prospect and No. 8 athlete.
Auburn also has commitments from Wenonah (Birmingham) defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, Upson-Lee (Thomaston, Ga.) defensive tackle David Marshall, Spanish Fort four-star linebacker Tre Threat and Calhoun (Ga.) three-star tight end Landon Rice.
