Mekhi Brown will make his first recruiting visit of the year next Saturday, March 30, when he visits Auburn and the new-look Tigers' program.
"They invited me over," Brown said. "I've spoken with them once, I talked to Coach (Rodney) Garner about two weeks ago, and I spoke with my old coach (Dell McGee) the other day. They offered a few weeks back. Coach Garner is a good coach, that offer was unbelievable.
"Auburn is a good school. I have decent interest in them. They will be in my top five, when I get to that point. They have great tradition, even when they have off years, they are still a great school with plenty of tradition."
McGee, Brown's most recent coach at Carver, recently accepted a coaching position at Auburn.
The 6-foot-6, 230-pound Brown already holds verbal offers from Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee, Clemson and others. Brown is well on the way to becoming a Rivals100 member of the Class of 2015.
"I'm taking it all in and not letting the early attention get to me," said Brown.
Brown hails from Carver-Columbus (Ga.) High School, home of current Auburn defensive tackle Gabe Wright. Carver is also home to Alabama standout Adrian Hubbard, and Clemson standouts David Beasley and Corey Crawford. The pair had a relationship during their Carver days and maintain that relationship now.
"Whenever he comes back to the school, we talk about Auburn," Brown said. "He gives me pointers on recruiting or just life things. We talk about what he likes Auburn. He likes the new coaching staff and he just really loves Auburn. There's a reason he chose them in the first place."
As a sophomore, Brown had 50 tackles, nine sacks, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He played in space, at outside linebacker, in Carver's 3-3-5 defense.
Brown already bench presses 315 pounds, squats 380, power cleans 265, carries a 3.7 GPA and clocked a 4.6-second 40-yard dash in June at North Carolina's camp.
