Auburn played host to several top recruits on Saturday, but Warner Robins (Ga.) Rivals100 receiver Marquez Callaway wasn't one of them.
Callaway, ranked the 16 receiver and 100 overall prospect, couldn't make it. He had plans that couldn't be broken.
"I talked to (AU area recruiter) Coach (Rodney) Garner last week and he wanted me to come to their spring game," Callaway said. "But I couldn't make it. I was at prom in Atlanta."
Callaway not being able to attend A-Day doesn't hurt Auburn's chances.
He'll be back. He's visited twice before.
"I plan on going up there again soon," Callaway said. "I haven't set a date, but I'll be back. I still like Auburn a lot. I really like it at Auburn. I like how they have that family feel, how they have that family environment.
"It's also close to where I live, so they are always going to be good with me."
Callaway, 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds, said the Tigers are and will continue to be among his favorites. His interest in Auburn can be traced back to Jeffrey Whitaker's days as a Tiger.
Callaway's interest in Auburn continues today in part because Whitaker, the former Auburn and Warner Robins defensive lineman, has been an extra recruiter for the Tigers.
And a pretty good one, too.
"Everything he said about Auburn was true," Callaway said. "'Big Jeff' doesn't pressure me at all. He just tells me how much he loves Auburn, how much he liked playing there and just how great it is there.
"He told me everything that he liked about Auburn and when I went up there on a visit, I got to see what he was talking about. I saw that everything he said was true so I know he's someone I can count on.
"I know he's someone who's word I can trust."
Callaway lists his favorites as Auburn, Georgia, Alabama, Florida and Tennessee. He doesn't plan to make an early decision.
"I might wait until Signing Day," he said.
Rivals.com ranks Callaway the No. 12 player from Georgia in the 2016 class.
