Byrum named Lou Groza Star of Week

For the third time this season, Auburn freshman Wes Byrum has been named as a Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Star of the Week, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission announced Monday.
Byrum was honored along with Kentucky's Lones Seiber, who kicked a 34-yard field goal to tie the game and force a third overtime against LSU, and Georgia's Brandon Cotu, who kicked the game-winning 37-yard field goal to defeat Vanderbilt.

Byrum kicked three field goals during the 9-7 victory at Arkansas, including the game-winner from 20 yards with 21 seconds remaining in regulation. He provided all of the Auburn scoring, which included kicks of 22 and 38 yards, in addition to the game winner.
He has made 11 field goals in 15 attempts this season and leads the team with 53 points scored. Byrum had a season-long 49-yard field goal against South Florida and has had seven touchbacks in the last four games.
The 2007 winner of the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award is presented by the FedEx Orange Bowl and will be announced on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007 during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Award Show in Orlando, Fla. The top three finalists for the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award will be honored during the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Banquet and Silent Auction on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007 at the Palm Beach Gardens Marriott. This is an event of the Palm Beach County Sports Institute.
All Football Bowl Sub-Division kickers are eligible for the Award named for NFL Hall of Fame Kicker Lou "The Toe" Groza. Voters for the award include Football Bowl Sub-Division head coaches, sports writers and sportscasters, conference representatives, professional kickers, and previous Groza Award finalists.
The Lou Groza Award is presented by the FedEx Orange Bowl and is also sponsored by The Breakers, Continental Airlines, Discretion Entertainment LLC, Enterprise rent-a-car, ESPN Radio 760, ESPN Regional Television, Florida Coca-Cola Bottling, Hartless Foundation, JBS Destination Solutions, Palm Beach Kennel Club, The Palm Beach Post, Parallax Productions, Romano Law Group, Rooney's Public House and World Class Transportation Inc.
