AUBURN | Auburn received a commitment Saturday from one of the top overall prospects in 2017, five-star OT Calvin Ashley. The Tigers also made big impressions on two other 2017 Rivals100 to Watch recruits.
Buckhorn (New Market, Ala.) four-star linebacker Will Ignont and Mary Persons (Forsyth, Ga.) four-star defensive end Malik Herring both raved about their visits.
Here's what the pair had to say…
New Market, Ala. (Buckhorn)
On his visit…
"It was a great visit. I really enjoyed it. I had a lot of fun. It's something that I've never experienced before. It was just a great experience, a fun day. I can't wait to be back for camp."
Comfort level at Auburn…
"I'm feeling real comfortable, especially with Coach (Tim) Horton. I'm getting a better relationship with Coach (Will) Muschamp. Coach (Lance) Thompson, me and him already had a good relationship from when he was at Alabama. Then me and Coach (Gus) Malzahn have a pretty good relationship. I feel real comfortable down here at Auburn. I feel almost at home."
Stood out about Big Cat…
"Probably just how the coaches were all just having fun. They were out there doing what we were doing. They were participating in the same events. It was just a fun day. I could see how the coaches really were. I saw them for their real selves. It was just a fun day and I liked being around them."
Where Auburn stands…
"I don't really have a top five. Schools that standout: Auburn for sure, LSU, Alabama, Georgia and Ole Miss."
What's next…
"I'll be back sometime in July for camp. A decision, me and my mom already talked about it. I want to have my decision around this time next year so my senior year I can just play."
Forsyth, Ga. (Mary Persons)
On his visit…
"Everything was great. From the moment I arrived until the minute I left, it was great. It was a fantastic visit. I had a really good time. It wasn't about recruiting. It was about getting to know the coaches."
Where Auburn stands…
"I have no idea. I'm going to wait and visit a couple of more schools and name a top five or six during football season. But I liked my visit to Big Cat."
What stood out…
"Coach (Rodney) Garner. I didn't know he was that laid back, real cool dude. I really like that and love the way he coaches. He's all about competition, all about winning, and so am I."
