AUBURN | Shedrick Jackson could be one of the state’s top recruits in the 2018 class.

The junior wide receiver from Hoover already has an offer from Mississippi State and early interest from Auburn, Alabama and Vanderbilt, among others.

Jackson was one of a few underclassmen invited to the Tigers’ War Damn BBQ event on Saturday.

“I loved it,” Jackson said. “I love it down here (at Auburn). It feels like home.”

Jackson met with Auburn receivers coach Kodi Burns during the day. The two have developed a relationship Jackson expects to grow in the next two years.

“He’s a really great guy,” Jackson said of the former Auburn quarterback/receiver. “I watched him play back in 2010 with Cam Newton. He said he’s watched my film and that he likes me. He wants me to come back for some practices and I definitely will.”

Jackson, who stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 195 pounds, has strong interest in the Tigers despite not having an offer.

“I think they’ll be one of my top schools,” Jackson said. “I love it down here. They made me feel part of the family.”

Understandably so.

Jackson is the nephew of former Auburn running back and Heisman Trophy winner Bo Jackson. While there is a family tie to Auburn, the younger Jackson doesn’t feel pressure to follow in the elder’s footsteps.

“We haven’t really talked about it,” Jackson said. “But if I need some help I’ll go to him. I know he’s always there to help me out.”

Shedrick Jackson had 20 receptions for 406 yards and four touchdowns last season as a sophomore.
