AUBURN, Ala. | Alec Jackson visited Auburn on Saturday, and the defensive end from Jeff Davis in Montgomery is glad he did.

He left with more than he arrived.

“I got an offer,” Jackson said. “It felt great to finally get it. It’s the one I’ve been hoping for, but also the one I knew I’d have to work to get.”

Jackson, who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 238 pounds, apparently did enough as a junior. He totaled 69 tackles last season, including 7.5 sacks and 45 solo stops. He also had five quarterback-hurries and two fumble recoveries.

Jackson arrived in Auburn on Saturday and watched the Tigers scrimmage. He met with the defensive coaches, including defensive line coach Rodney Garner.

“The visit went great,” Jackson said. “We toured around the campus and facilities and everything was really nice. I loved it. We also watched them practice and that was great. There was a lot of hitting out there. Those boys were flying around so fast and hitting folks. It was fun to watch.”

Auburn joined several other schools that have offered Jackson, including Alabama, Kentucky, Cincinnati, North Carolina, South Carolina, UAB and Troy. The two in-state SEC schools currently are tied atop his list of favorites.

“Auburn and Alabama are at the top,” Jackson said. “I’ve got offers from both so I’m enjoying life right now. I grew up an Auburn fan so that offer is pretty special to me, and to also have one from Alabama, I just feel very blessed.”

Jackson doesn’t plan to make a commitment in haste. He still has visits to take and information to sort through.

“I’ll probably wait until the summer before I make my decision,” Jackson said.
